Staying close and step change

Homes2Inspire Logo

Homes2Inspire welcomes the recommendations around supporting young people in residential care who are approaching independence, as highlighted in the Government’s ‘Keep on Caring’ white paper and Sir Martin Narey’s ‘Residential Care in England’, independently commissioned report, both published in July 2016.

We are committed to supporting young people during this transitional period to prevent the ‘cliff edge’ of support and the end of their period in residential care. We have developed bespoke packages with local authorities, internal and external stakeholders and young people to enhance the transition process to independence resulting in a more proactive and positive experience of leaving care.

All children and young people accommodated within Homes2Inspire are encouraged and supported to achieve positive outcomes. All children and young people will have a comprehensive Pathway Plan, where applicable, that ensures their safety and well-being and fulfils their future aspirations.

We provide a detailed Care Plan which involves all significant stakeholders working collaboratively to deliver these outcomes appropriately and measurably.

Staying close

The Care Standards Act 2000 requires a children’s home to provide care and accommodation ‘wholly or mainly’ for children. It may, on occasion, be necessary as part of these arrangements to accommodate young people in our homes after their 18th birthday. However, we will always ensure that this is appropriate to the needs of the young person and those children and young people also in placement. When the young people are ready to move on, a package of community-based support can be offered to ensure that those supporting this transition into adulthood are familiar to the young people.

Step change

When children leave our care, we offer bespoke packages of community-based care that allow staff working with the young person in their home to continue to support them in their leaving care provision.

Our Step Change package supports those leaving our homes up to age 25. We monitor the outcomes for young people against the Star Outcomes Framework and report on this during the Step Change support.
